Night
diving for lobster in the waters adjacent to the cliffs of Palos
Verdes can be both convenient and productive. Many a trophy male
has fallen prey to a game bag during the annual Fall season. And, since
its a mere 15 minute boat ride away, many divers a able to squeeze three
dives into a typical evening session. The many coves, structure and ever-changing
kelp beds provide an endless amount of cover for the local bugs. Over
the years, Palos Verdes has been recognized as a premier lobster gathering
destination.
The back side of Catalina, as far South as Ben Weston
Point, offers a host of ideal lobster haunts. During lobster season, we
target these locations on our Catalina trips. Our Redondo Beach location
puts the back side well within range for a 3/4 or all-day trip. Its an
hour and 20 minute boat ride to the West End and another 20 minutes to
Ben Weston Point.
The kelp beds and structure of the Point Dome area are
infrequently targeted as dive locations. In fact, Island Diver is one
of the few dive boats docked within range of this seldom visited destination.
Our captains and dive masters are all familiar with our local waters.
Some have been diving and or fishing here since they were kids. And, Island
Diver is the ideal diving platform. Her 20 knot speed, well thought out
diver accommodations and large live-well will make your lobster hunt even
more enjoyable.
